What Is Prayer
Prayer is humanity reaching out to the divine, inviting God to intervene in our lives.
It is a communication between man and God, where God either answers our needs or reveals insights we didn’t know, guiding us toward our destiny or helping us avoid danger (Jeremiah 33:3).
Prayer serves as a spiritual weapon, both offensive and defensive. This dynamic is illustrated in 2 Chronicles 20:1-30, where King Jehoshaphat presented the threat of three nations to God in prayer (the full petition can be found in verses 6-12).
Jehoshaphat prayed defensively, and God responded with offensive action. Prayer is a powerful opportunity for divine intervention and miraculous outcomes.
Why Do We Pray?
- We pray because God expects us to pray (Jeremiah 29:12).
- We pray because only God can answer our prayers in a genuine and conclusive way (Psalm 65:2).
- We pray because we are powerless without God’s help (Psalm 106:11, Psalm 108:12).
- We pray because it is a powerful weapon in our spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:10-18).
- We pray because it strengthens our relationship with God (Jeremiah 33:3).
- Only through a personal relationship with God can He reveal what we don’t know.
- We pray because it empowers us to overcome temptation (James 4:7).
- We pray because it guides us in knowing God’s will (1 John 5:14).
When Do We Pray?
Prayer is not something we do only when we feel like it, but a practice we maintain at
all times. It is not meant to be reserved for moments of trouble, but to be a continual part of our lives (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

Does God Answer Prayer?
Absolutely, God answers prayer. Throughout the Bible, we see countless examples of God responding to the prayers of His people, such as Jacob, Hannah, Hezekiah, and Jabez, just to name a few. Psalm 65:2 and 1 John 5:14-15 clearly affirm that God hears and answers our prayers, especially when they align with His will.
We are also surrounded by countless testimonies within our community of God faithfully answering prayers. Indeed, God is real and continues to perform wonders!
How Do We Pray to Receive an Answer?
- First, we must recognize that not all prayers qualify for an answer (James 4:3).
- For our prayers to be answered, they must be offered boldly (Hebrews 4:16).
- They must also align with God’s will (1 John 5:14).
- Lastly, prayers must be made in faith—without faith, there is no answer (James 1:6-8).
