The Story of God's Promises to Abraham
Reference: Genesis 12:1-3
Story:
The story of God’s promises to Abraham begins in a land called Ur, where Abraham (then known as Abram) lived with his family. God called Abram to leave his home, his family, and everything familiar, and go to a land that God would show him. God promised to make Abram into a great nation, bless him, make his name great, and bless all the families of the earth through him. These promises marked the beginning of God’s covenant with Abram, who was 75 years old at the time, and would later become the father of many nations.
God told Abram, “Go from your country, your people, and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
Though Abram didn’t know the exact details of where he was going or how God would fulfil these promises, he obeyed. He left Ur, taking his wife Sarai (later named Sarah), his nephew Lot, and all his possessions with him. Abram’s obedience marked the start of a faith journey that would shape the future of Israel and all of humanity.

God’s Call Requires Faith and Obedience:
God called Abram to leave everything he knew for an unknown future. It was a call to trust in God’s plan, even without knowing all the details. Abram's willingness to obey, despite the uncertainty, shows the importance of faith in God’s promises.
Application: God often calls us to step out in faith, even when the path is unclear. Trusting God and obeying His call, even when we don’t know exactly what lies ahead, is a powerful act of faith. Sometimes, God’s plans require us to leave behind what is comfortable or familiar, but His promises are always worth it.
